Trump wants to ban the import of some Chinese products because of forced labour.
The United States wants to ban the import of several Chinese products. US Customs officials said on Tuesday that the country wants to block imports of cotton and tomato products from the West China region of Xinjiang because they were allegedly produced using forced labour.
Cotton and tomato products are two essential exports in China. The White House will soon announce the import ban and then immediately put five more products on the list. These too would be produced with the help of forced labour.
For some time now, there has been a trade war between the United States and China. The countries are introducing additional import tariffs for each other’s products.
Last month, the US announced that goods from Hong Kong will now also be labelled ‘Made in China’ in the US. As a result, the same import duties must be paid for those products for Chinese products.
