Trump threatens to send the military. Can it get this far?

President Trump threatens to send the military to the unrest that has erupted in several American cities following the death of George Floyd. The President has options to do that, but he does risk a political battle in court.
“If a city or a state refuses to defend the lives and property of its people, I will deploy the US military and resolve the problem quickly for them,” said the President.
Trump is referring to the dozens of cities where unrest broke out after George Floyd died in a heavy-handed arrest. It is yet another incident in which a black American falls victim to police brutality and leads to demonstrations against racism.
Most of the demonstrations are peaceful, but some have resulted in arson, looting and riots. Trump wants to combat these disturbances with the military, among other things.
