The police chief condemns the actions of ex-officers
“Not part of our ethics”: Derek Chauvin violated police rules with his violent actions against George Floyd, says his former boss.
The Minneapolis Police Chief has criticized the actions of the accused former police officer as a rule-breaking in the trial of the death of the black George Floyd. Derek Chauvin violated the city police department’s rules when he pressed his knee to Floyd’s neck for more than nine minutes, Medaria Arradondo said in court. The procedure is “not part of our policy, not part of our training, and it is certainly against our ethics or our values”.
Chauvin should have stopped the use of physical violence when Floyd, lying on the ground and handcuffed, no longer offered any resistance. Especially when the latter no longer gave any sign of life, the defendant should have let go. He had thus violated guidelines on the use of force and failed to follow de-escalation and assistance regulations.
