Netflix stops iTunes subscriptions on Apple devices
Subscriptions to Netflix can no longer be closed via iTunes. In this way, the company does not have to pay a share of the income to Apple. It only involves new subscriptions to Netflix, a video service spokesperson verifies to VentureBeat.
Existing subscribers can continue to pay via iTunes. Netflix tested an option earlier this year to pay outside of iTunes. That payment method is now used worldwide. New subscribers do not pay via the App Store but via the Netflix website.
Apple requires 15 to 30 per cent of income from in-app purchases via iTunes. This applies to both the purchase of apps and the closing of subscriptions. Taking a subscription via iTunes is therefore always more expensive.
Netflix already stopped offering subscriptions to Android in May through the Google Play Store. The Netflix app will remain available through the app stores.
