Maastricht University after the cyber attack: ‘Stay away from computers’
Maastricht University recently hit by a cyber attack calls on students not to touch any school computers.
“IMPORTANT !: Stay away from the systems.” That is the announcement on the university site. The use of computers might disrupt the investigation into the recent cyber attack.
Maastricht University was hit by a major ransomware attack last week. This malware encrypts the files on all university computers on a large scale. It was therefore decided to switch off all devices quickly.
With ransomware, the attackers often ask for ransom. In exchange for a significant amount of money, they promise to make the computers usable again. Security investigators usually advise not to pay because there is no guarantee that the criminals will keep their promises.
