From ‘wake-up call’ to ‘now or never’: alarmed reactions to climate report

The rock-solid climate report is causing responses at home and abroad. “Extremely worrisome”, says outgoing Prime Minister Rutte in the IPCC report. His British colleague Boris Johnson calls it a wake-up call. According to European Commissioner Frans Timmermans, the world must now say that enough is enough.
Rutte says in an initial response that it is ‘extra important that the climate objectives are achieved in both the Netherlands and abroad. However, he acknowledges that there is ‘a gap’ between the Dutch climate goals and how they are performed with current policy.
