Erdoğan compares Greece’s actions to Nazi crimes
According to Erdoğan, there is “no difference between what the Nazis did and the pictures of the Greek border”. There were violent clashes.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan compared Greece’s action against refugees at the Turkish-Greek border with that of the Nazis. “There is no such difference between what the Nazis did and the pictures of the Greek border,” Erdoğan said in a television speech. “What they did in the Nazi camps is also done by the Greeks on behalf of the West, almost as paid officials of the West,” he added. “And they kill too. They’re paid legionaries of the West.”
Erdoğan’s statements on television followed footage of migrants who were pushed back using tear gas while trying to cross the border from Turkey to Greece.
As early as Sunday, the Turkish president had accused Greece of “beating”, “killing” and “torturing” migrants who had made it into the EU illegally returning to Turkey.
