China postpones People’s Congress
The Chinese government will postpone the People’s Congress scheduled for March. The reason is the coronavirus epidemic.
China postpones the annual meeting of the National People’s Congress because of the coronavirus epidemic. The state broadcaster CCTV reported. The ten-day meeting was supposed to take place on March 5. Around 6,000 delegates from across the country should have participated.
The Standing Committee of the People’s Congress had already called for a postponement of the date last week. The People’s Congress is postponed for the first time since the Cultural Revolution, according to CCTV. The postponement was also justified by the fact that many of the MPs were fighting “at the forefront” against the epidemic.
China had recently seen a sharp increase in the number of coronavirus infections. Over 77,000 people have contracted lung disease. Two thousand five hundred ninety-two people had died as a result of the virus.
