Britain has been outraged by the British Ambassador’s temporary arrest in Tehran.
“The unfounded and unfounded arrest of our ambassadors in Tehran is an outrageous violation of international law,” said Foreign Minister Dominic Raab. Ambassador Rob Macaire was arrested for a few hours, according to the Tasnim news agency. He was then released after the report. Macaire had participated in a protest on Saturday evening in front of Amir Kabir University over the shooting down of a Ukrainian passenger plane by Iran.
The British Foreign Secretary said: “The Iranian government is at a crossroads.” They could continue their march towards outsider status with all political and economic isolation. Or it could take de-escalating steps and move forward diplomatically.
